Votes for Irish Citizens Abroad – What Next?
A strategy meeting
2-5pm Saturday 4 July 2015
New Horizon Youth Centre, 68 Chalfont St, London NW1 1JR
We would like to invite you to a strategy meeting to be held by Votes for Irish Citizens Abroad (VICA) on Saturday 4 July at New Horizon Youth Centre in central London.
We think this is a timely moment to have a further strategy meeting. Much attention in Ireland in May was focused on the many emigrants who managed to get back to vote in the same sex marriage referendum. They were clearly demonstrating that they remain stakeholders in Irish society and wanted to add their voice to its future direction. Many others would have been there if they could have travelled back. The issue of votes for Irish citizens abroad was also raised continually in the sessions of the first Global Irish Civic Forum in Dublin on 3-4 June 2015.
There will be a general election in Ireland within the next 11 months. We want to make sure that the issue of the vote is as centre stage as possible. So we are holding this meeting on 4 July. We have invited Laura Harmon, the current President of the Irish Students Union, over from Ireland to discuss with us the most effective means of campaigning on the issue.
It is necessary to register for the meeting on https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/
We very much hope you will be able to join us.
